If it's for comfort, I like them rumpled, they feel soft then. For a display, wall hanging, why wash them? I see beautiful work that is quilted so tight I think they are stiff and perhaps wouldn't look good after washing or pressing.

The only thing I pressed when the quilt is done is the binding. It makes it looks better for when I use to put my quilts into competition.
