I tried one of the blocks last week and ended up making 2 quilts it was so fun and easy. I had 6 1/2" blocks already cut waiting for me to do something with them. Great fun.

Wow that is super...hope to see pics...think I will show my quilt group and see about doing a 6" block exchange and then make this quilt from those blocks...

I used this same method to make this bowtie quilt. I used 3" squares, so my blocks are a little smaller - but love the effect!

ssnare 11-01-2010 07:38 AM

It looks easy.

Baysidegal 11-01-2010 07:41 AM

That looks like fun...I have a bunch of 5" squares that I can play with..have to try it today

It said to call your local quilt shop but I do not know other than that...think someone said connecting threads..

fidgety 11-01-2010 11:33 AM

I have been working ona scrappy quilt doing this. I just need to sew the blocks together. Super fast...

Dollysquiltingmom 11-01-2010 11:36 AM

I can't wait to try it. Looks like so much fun.

nativetexan 11-01-2010 12:49 PM

thanks for that. i also looked at fun and done and found that is evidently how I did my Hawaaian squares quilt. I just thought i figured it out myself. well, i did.hadn't seen fun and done before. quilt as you go actually but i like the backing being the seam covering on the front.

wildyard 11-02-2010 11:53 AM

Am I the only one this seems a little wasteful of fabric to? I guess the time saved makes up for that... somehow tho, it twinges my thrift sense. LOL

emmy 11-02-2010 06:57 PM

Connecting Threads has the book on sale. I've only done practice blocks, and you lose a little of the center block, but all of the four background blocks are shown.

annette1952 11-02-2010 07:51 PM

You also can order the book at http://www.d-originals.com It is $16.99 there. You might be able to get it at JoAnns too & use a coupon to save some money.

I really really like the looks better by using a larger block for the center...it fills in more of the whole block...

I saw this block last week here on the board and couldn't wait to try it. It was so quick and easy. I tried a few days later to go back to the message showing it and couldn't find it. Can someone send the link to it?

This is the practice block I made. I'm not sure what I'll make - maybe a table runner for the summer patriotic holidays.

Thank you!!!!!!

Granny K 11-03-2010 06:45 AM

I got mine from Connecting Threads they had them for $10.19 and with shipping it was $13.48

BellaBoo 11-03-2010 07:12 AM

By making the middle square much larger and folding it back, you get the Drunkard's Path type look.

wildyard 11-03-2010 07:20 AM

How do you make the middle square larger? Do you mean cutting it larger to begin with? If so, how much larger than the other 4 squares would you cut it?

MS quilter 11-03-2010 07:22 AM

I made one in a afternoon! Absolutely love this technique.

Thanks Sue - I have the UTube video bookmarked but what I was looking for was the thread that was on here last week discussing that block. Can anyone find it. I did the search but couldn't get it.

acraftee24 11-03-2010 07:50 AM

Super! I would love to purchase this book. Please tell me the author's name. [email protected]

acraftee24 11-03-2010 08:08 AM

I finally found it on amazon.com. Right now it is out of stock, but you can be placed on the waiting list. Its $12 plus shipping.

acraftee24 11-03-2010 08:27 AM

I found it on amazon.com and connectingthreads.com

Is this it? It's mentioned about 6 or 7 messages down.

I made my center block 1 1/2 " larger than the other blocks and could have gone 2" larger

I wouldn't do 10" squares but did like the smaller squares...guess best thing to do is just do a few sample pieces and see what appeals most to you
