She is starting a new mystery quilt and I'm going through my scraps and fabrics using every shade of four colors I can find. I'm low on neutrals so I'm heading to Goodwill for men's shirts after I vote today. If you haven't made a Bonnie mystery, try it. Her quilts are designed to use up any and all scraps. With this mystery she says it's a total clean out of your scraps!

I'm planning on doing this one, I've got tons of green and reds but will need to probably find some more pinks. Looks like fun.!

Candace 11-02-2010 07:25 AM

So, she's going to post directions on her blog over the next month? Looks fun.

BellaBoo 11-02-2010 08:02 AM

She explains on the link I provided how her instructions will be posted Her only rule is no whining. I like that!

Mariposa 11-02-2010 08:31 AM

Sounds like fun!!

Iluv2quilt 11-02-2010 08:47 AM

Thank you for the link for this. It sounds like it should be a fun quilt to do and rid some of the scrappy stash that's been building up and overflowing. I'm considering it too. :D

ranger 11-02-2010 08:56 AM

I always wanted to do a mystery quilt. I'm going to try this one.

Thanks so much for the link.

Me too. I've never done one before.

Central Ohio Quilter 11-02-2010 10:17 AM

I would love to try a mystery quilt, but this one looks too scrappy for me. I am not a big fan of scrappy quilts and I especially don't want to make one when I don't know what it is going to look like ahead of time. I think I will pass on this one.

BellaBoo 11-02-2010 10:53 AM

I figure it's using up scraps so what difference does it make if it out of my usual range of like. At least I'll have a quilt made and not a pile of scraps and I know someone will love the finished quilt and claim it.

Marlys 11-03-2010 07:09 AM

I have never done a mystery quilt. I donate a lot of quilts for charity auctions & raffles, so this sounds like a great way to use up some of the MANY scraps I have. I'm in!

Part of the mystrey is not knowing what the pattern is until you are done. Remember if you don't like it you can always sell it or give it away to charity. Since Bonnie says this is a BIG quilt you could even cut (divide) it in half and make two charity quilts.

lreade 11-03-2010 09:17 AM

This will be my third mystery quilt and I have never been disappointed. In fact I just gave one to my BIL and his new wife for a wedding gift.

skjquiltnut 11-03-2010 08:29 PM

Sounds like fun! Totally do not have a clue as to how I go about getting started, never done this before; HELP!! Joking, but really, how does this work? Do I dial in weekly, daily??

Fancy Nancy 11-03-2010 08:57 PM

how does the mystery quilt program work? do you sign up somewhere?

Suse 11-03-2010 09:56 PM

I'm also planning to do this one, I need may more neutrals. I have brown and green. I may need more pink and red. 8-)

meant2be 11-03-2010 10:21 PM

This sounds like fun. Does she charge for the instructions? I can't find the right place to click to say I want the instrutions. Need your help.

In the very first post of this topic, they provide the link. Just click on it and it will take you to her website. Right now she is just giving us the fabrics we need. She will post instructions about once a week starting November 19. Let me know if you can't find it.

CarrieAnne 11-04-2010 08:06 AM

Thanks!

tobylehnj 11-04-2010 12:32 PM

You can sign up at her Yahoo group for updates, but she will post the directions on her web site at quiltville.com

Please check out her quilts on her site. She has many patterns there for free... She uses many fabrics of the same color family and they are beautiful..
You can print them out and not start it until the last clue has been uploaded, but you should know that once the quilt is all on the web, it will not be on for long, like her others. This one will be going in her next book, so it will be coming off the web site. So print it while you can and decide later if you want to make it.. It will be a large quilt. Bonnie says, it uses up more scraps that way..
I love her quilts. I took a class with her at Hersey, PA this summer. I have made two "Crumb" quilts already and a "Boxy Star" and I have started cutting for the "Chunky Churndash" Only a lap size, but I am using those scraps....

meant2be 11-04-2010 12:51 PM

Thanks, I think I am going to do this. Sounds interesting.

BellaBoo 11-04-2010 01:59 PM

She will post the clues as she has a chance. No set date and you work at your own pace. All the parts will be on her blog and she will have a link to a printer friendly page. Check her blog when you get ready to start the next step.

So here's the fabric I've gathered for Bonnie's new mystery. I've never done one of hers before so I'm really looking forward to it. I've never thought of using pinks and greens together before, so it'll be interesting to see whether I like it when it's done or not... LOL

Anyone else want to post piccies of what they are going to do?

I've decided to do the quilt also. Have looked at my fabric and I have quite a few choices in my stash. I have not brought any of them out yet, thought I would wait a little longer. She mentioned we would be using strips too. Should be fun.

Candace 11-10-2010 07:34 PM

I have so many scraps, I'm hoping to whittle them down to a manageable size. Can't wait!

tobylehnj 11-11-2010 04:30 AM

That is why Bonnie does big quilts, they use up scraps faster. But my problem is that I made two crumb quilt tops and (lap size) and a lap size boxy star and now a lap size chunky churn dash and I still have not put a dent in my stash of scraps...

I guess I am not making the quilts large enough.. My scraps keep growing. Each time I cut for a quilt or cut for a border, my scraps keep growing.... I guess I need to work faster...

lucylockett 11-12-2010 05:21 PM

I'm game! Never did a mystery quilt, but have plenty of stash. This will be my "free" entertainment project for this winter. No pattern or fabric to buy!

cabbagepatchkid 11-14-2010 08:48 AM

I'm planning on doing this quilt. I haven't gathered my fabrics, yet, but I think I will be doing that later today since it's only 5 more days until the first clue :D I love Bonnie's quilts!!

I am going through the Quilting Board digests and just found this notice/thread ... along with another one.
I am going to do this, but I am really depending on all of you to remind me through this thread that Miss Bonnie has posted another clue - - I do not do surfing, except through this site, and well - - the excuses go on and on.
Looking forward to "working" with y'all <wave>

LoriJ 11-16-2010 05:06 AM

Here is an excerpt from her website.... Looks like there will be a clue every week.

"The first clue will be posted Friday, November 19th! It's loaded, and scheduled to go live on my blog, Quiltville's Quips & Snips, in the wee small hours of the morning!

I have it set to release there as I will be out of town and unable to update my website remotely, but I can plan posts and pre-date them on the blog so they will post when I need them to! ((Ah, the wonders of the internet! Gotta love it!))

Be sure to check back every Friday through the rest of November and December for each next clue untl the Mystery is complete!"

Her Double Delight Mystery has been my favorite so far. It's beautiful in the colors she choose. I did the Christmas Lights mystery too. Also a beautiful quilt. Her patterns are so easy to throw in just about any scrap fabric you have.

Got the directions printed out. Does not look too bad for the 1st week - just a lot of strip piecing and cutting!

THANK YOU!
I remembered Friday was the day, and this morning, while out watering the cattle, I thought - - I need to check on that when I get back to the house ...
well ... things are a bit different out here at the ranch, and it is: the loudest, most demanding gets the attention.
Had you not posted to the thread, Lord only knows when I would have thought of it again, but I would probably win the bet if I said - - the next time would be out somewhere far and away from the bunkhouse.
Thank you, again!
I just have one question ... why does it have to be pink???? IHATE pink ... will think on this awhile, because truth be told - - as much as I hate it, I seem to find it all through my stash ...
oh! what to do, what to do???? and, wherever DID I put the green that I am not too fond of either! LOL
(we all have our little problems, don't we? <wave>

Omak, use any color combination that you want, just make sure you have four different ones.

See, it was meant to be! This is a great way to use up all of that pink in your stash so you can get fabric that you love!!!

I'm not a fan of pink and green together as it seems little girlish to me. But, I'm game and if I don't love it when I'm done it will make a nice gift for someone. And my collection of scraps will (fingers crossed) be a lot smaller.

omak 11-19-2010 05:01 PM

Thank you for your suggestions and encouragement!
I like how you figured out that I just needed four different color families. It seems simple enough to figure out, but I just hadn't taken time to figure it out.
As far as making a dent in scrap stash - - don't believe it! <g> I have been at scrap reduction for a long time, and when I get on a roll, they seem to breed! LOL
I should say that I do like two shades of color in those families - - electric pink with electric green, but it has to be just right the right shade of each, and wouldn't you know? I own neither!
I do like the idea that it was meant to be, though - - if you knew how much pink I have given away and then end up finding another big bunch of it, no one would believe how much I dislike the color.
Do you suppose I am delusional??? LOL <wave>
