Wow! Thank you sooo much for this link! I am always looking for a worthy project to be involved with...although this year it's not the quilts...it's making Christmas Stockings...but I can quilt mine! Our troops deserve our love and support!

The American Hero Quilts are also sent to Afghanastan to the critically wounded that have to be transported to Germany for further medical attention. They use them to help keep the soldiers warm while being transported in the big cargo planes. http://americanheroquilts.com

One of the main reasons I do the American Hero Quilts is because my dad past away on Christmas Eve and I wanted to do something special that I know he would have been proud of. So I did 82 of the American Hero Quilts before his 82nd birthday would have been. He served in the Korean War when he was younger and I have a daughter that just finished serving 9 years in the Navy. In fact she was on the USS Carl Vinson when 9 11 happened. They were out in the Persian Gulf at the time and were sent immediately to the Arabian Sea and the first attack planes were launched off of the Carl Vinson. If you ever see an aircraft carrier with the workers on the flight deck my daughter was one of the green shirts. That signifys what they do or where they work. She was an aviation electronics, she worked on the airplanes on the flight deck. I am very proud of my dad, my daughter, my brother who served and all of the many unknown people that have served and still are serving. I feel that there is no greater cause to be a part of.

I'm also new to quilting. You can do this! You hang around this board long enough and ask any question no matter if it seems dumb to you, ask. The people on this board will help you anyway they can. You can also use the search engine at the top of the page. There are so many easy quilts you can make to get you started. Goggle is your friend too. Start with a easy pattern and see how you do. Any mistakes will be a learning experience. I don't post alot myself here but I read everything and usually find my answer or go to google.

Thanks Kristina for the encouragement. One of these days I will start on putting something together--Right now I am trying to clear out most of my leftover projects of wool and thread items Have tons of crochet thread & wool left from my mother--plus lots of sewing crafts I did. Am making boxes & sending them to a church for their rummage sale & also finishing items for our Penny Social in the Fire House I belong to. Seems I do a little & have to stop & rest--Wish I was younger-- but as I said one of these days I will start cutting up the fabric.

I run a non-profit that supports the families of those that have been wounded or died in the line of duty. You do not know how much a simple quilt means to the family. We work with the families for up to 2 years after the death of a hero and I will make memory quilts as many as they need for them. It is the least I can do to give back to them. Thank you to all of you that make quilts. If you have a VA hospital close to you they too could use quilts lap or wheel chair quilts. Sometimes just a wrap around the shoulders is nice for them. These men and women often get forgoten it is so sad but the smile on their face when you visit is priceless.
