5 pound Janome
Have you heard of/own a 5 pound Janome sewing machine?
Is it a toy? Would it sew good enough to take to class?
What do they cost? I may have a chance to buy a new one, but I have never
heard of one that weights 5 pounds of any brand.

I haven't seen this machine. A friend told me about it & said it weighs 5 pounds. I bet
it is the Janome Jem. 5.6 kg Thanks for your info.

I had one that weighed about that. Great to carry on a plane. I used it to piece quilts in hotel rooms when I travel every week for work. It was noisy but did a good job stitching. No light . My son now uses it for mending.

Yes, I have one! It's a mechanical machine, called the 'Sew-Mini'. It's fine for class as long as you don't have to do anything fancy. It comes with only one presser foot and the presser foot can't be removed, which surprised me. But since I only use it for piecing, that really isn't a problem.
It was about $60 when I bought it 6 months ago.
It's kind of noisy, but at 5 pounds, is very easy to carry to class or guild meetings. The price is right, too, so I don't worry about dropping it or the 'grands' sewing on it, etc.
The only bad thing I can say about it is that it doesn't come with a light. What were they thinking?
