I do them all by machine and if they were to be judged, I think one should expect a straight line on the frontwhich is parallel to the ditch (if not stitched directly in the ditch), and on the back (the way I do them), the folded edge needs to be parallel to the row of stitching. Mine aren't all like that, but occasionally.

Do all my bindings by machine. Sew to the back, flip, press and machine stitch to the front. Saves a ton of time, and if done properly, and carefuly, gives a very nice finished look to the quilt.

No matter how hard I try, my 100% machine attached bindings never look good to me. So I hand stitch the back. But I do want to try Charismah's flange method. that sounds like I may be somewhat pleased with the results. I've tried Easy Peezy's method and just made a mess of things with the glue and it looked absolutely horrible on the back. Thank goodness the glue all washed out.
Did you set the glue with the iron? Try with a small project first...
like a pot holder.
