    Patricia,
you really did a wonderful job with that quilt, I like it a lot!
When I have very wide borders around an already quilted center I quilt the border clockwise. I start in the middle of one border and go left - because I am right handed and I use a hoop for quilting. That way my right hand lies on the quilted area and I don't rub off the markings with my hand. When you reach the corner motiv you also quilt it and then go on with the next white area.
Does that make sense for you? :)

YES! Very clear! I normally work with a lap hoop also, but in this case is the quilt is too big and I put it on a 'home made frame", (an old table), But I can always work clockwise !

    Thank you!

I got the quilt in a "Quilting Day Exchange". My 1° quilt teacher had the big white top with the 2 half-squares borders machine sewed; she gave me the pattern and fabrics for all the appliques and I did it following her own dessign.
She told me it's a Traditionnal Sharon's Rose pattern.

    Thank you!

ok, thank you. I know the system, (I didn't know the short form FMQ) but I'm not good on that... fortunately I like hand quilting ;)

If you have this on a frame, I would say it doesn't really matter which you do first.
If you aren't, then you may want to do some SID around the borders and then your cross hatching to stabilize the quilt sandwich :D:D:D
