Default Affairs of the Heart Quilt - Machine or Hand Applique?

I'm going to start the Affairs of the Heart quilt on New Years Day. I have my fabrics and the pattern ready to go. But I'm torn between machine applique and hand applique - there is something appealing about the challenge of hand but I really love the polished look of machine. I know that I won't have the patience to do the quilt twice. If it was you, which would you choose and WHY?

For that quilt I'd do machine applique and use matching thread and a blanket stitch.

Could you do it with fusible non woven interfacing, then finish edges with either blanket in color thread or blind hem with invisible thread? Have the book....will have to look at it again .......

Do you need a hand project for travel or appointments? If not I would go for machine appliqué so I could get it done quicker. There are just too many patterns I want to do to spend too much time on one thing.

I have the patterns all ready to go, and I always intended to hand appliqué. That was then this is now, I think I will machine appliqué. I want to get it done and the pieces are so small, I think that will be easiest. I agree with Tartan, I just want to get it done so I can work on another project.

My friend made the quilt using the embroidery pattern from Anna's Awesome Applique. It was stunning.

I myself do very little hand applique so I would get matching thread and use a buttonhole machine stitching.

There are no rules that say you can't combine the techniques. Try both techniques to find out what appeals to you.
