Default Alaska teachers?

Especially for all QB members in Alaska, who do you have in your community that would be able to teach quilting classes to our guild in Anchorage? Our guild, for many years, spent our money bringing nationally known instructors up from the "outside" once or twice a year, and that drives up the cost of the sessions, since we pay travel, etc. However, we've decided that we have lots of our own talent in state and want to support them when we can. you can reply on the board, or send me a PM with name and technique, or why they would be a good teacher.

For folks outside of Alaska - what classes have you had recently that were especially well received? We can pay for outside instructors when the interest is strong enough.

I'm as far away from Alaska as you can get, I'm in Florida. But, our Guild had a wonderful speaker, Lisa Moore with Quiltswithatwist. I think she had family in our area. She had beautiful Orca batik fabrics. I remember she was from somewhere up there, she explained the special fabric because quilting tourists get off the cruise ships wanting "Alaska fabrics" so she must be associated with a quilt shop somewhere up there.

toverly - yes, Lisa is from here and thanks for reminding me of her. I'll put her on my list. She lives in the southeast part of the state but comes to Anchorage frequently. I've taken a class from her and really enjoyed it. She and her husband designed a whole line of alaska themed batiks and they sell like hotcakes...even to residents...

LOL I just visited Alaska this August and came home with quite a few Alaskan themed batiks from a shop in Skagway. Haven't decided what I want to do with them yet, some sort of memory wall hanging.
