Auto thread cutter on machine problem

When I use the auto thread cutter on my Brother, after a few times it unthreads the needle. So frustrating. I have asked Brother dealers and none seem to know why it happens. I have it threaded right. I was threading it wrong for a while and thought that was the problem. Now it's unthreading again. Anyone have that problem when using an auto thread cutter?

my best guess is that it happens because it cuts the thread so close, it sometimes pops out of the needle when the thread relaxes.

I wondered about this... on my machine if I move the wheel slightly forward,it takes a litte tension off of the thread, so when I manually cut the thread it does not "suck back in" and occasionally come out of the needle... I wonder if the same thing would work for the auto cutting machines?

It's great to have but I'm going to stop using it because of the unthreading problem. The several dealers I talked to, two at Paducah quilt show, looked at me like I was crazy when I said it unthreads my machine because NO ONE has ever said that has happened before to their knowledge. Yeah right.

My manual says the needle has to be in the lowest position before using the thread cutter. In fact when I push the auto cut the auto needle down feature is engaged before it will cut. I can't use it with the needle in the high position.

I used to work in a sewing factory, and once in awhile we would have the same trouble on the Mitsubishis. Most of the time we just had to make a minor adjustment.
I don't know if your machine is like mine, but mine has 2 tension knobs. the main one that you use to fix your top tension, and a smaller one before that. Turn the smaller one looser one whole turn. try your cutter for a bit, if that doesn't work, turn a little looser again. Keep your eye on your tension though. Shouldn't cause a problem with just a 2 or 3 turns of the smaller knob.
Here is a pic of my machine with the smaller knob circled. remember "Lefty Loosey Righty Tighty" :)
