I have been pleasantly surprised with some of the fabric from JoAnn's as of late. I could also say the same with fabric from Hobby Lobby. Both stores still carry the lower quality of fabric and the price is indicative of that, but seems like they are improving overall. As someone else stated, seems like the price of everything is going up so if you find a good price on quality fabric...stock up. I do think that the LQS tend to carry better quality fabrics as a rule, but they usually don't have the buying power of larger chain stores so it hard to find good deals there. I do support them when I can over the chains because of the great customer service and help I get when I run into a quilting issue. Well worth any difference in price of the fabric! :-)
