I need opinions. I have pieced a texas star and am now going to applique about the outside. (Have never done this before). One person said to applique the pieces to be fitted around the star separately and then piece them in around the star because the pieces will pucker during the applique (I am hand appliqueing) and you will need to recut them. Another person said go ahead and piece the borders and then applique. I am tempted to follow the 2 person's advice because I now have parts of the applique hanging off the one piece that I am working on and I don't really see any puckering and I think it would be a heck of alot easier. :) Has anyone had a lot of trouble with puckering applique? This is my daughter's wedding quilt and am trying to do it well.
Thanks Celia

If you are hand quilting, it shouldnt pucker. IF you arent having any problems go ahead and do what is easiest for you. Machine applque will pucker if you dont use a stabilizer. And for machine applique I find it easier to do all the applique befor attaching the borders

Hi,
I think it would be easier to do the applique before you attach the borders simply because you won't have to manover around the whole big quilt while you are doing the actual applique.
Your daughter is a lucky girl.
Good luck

I'll try to post a picture of the quilt tomorrow. I am making up the applique as I go. I don't have a pattern to follow - only a picture of a quilt (that won all sorts of awards-ekk! ) Mine will not be the same quilt needless to say.
