Ditto! I love the look of needle turn, but have not mastered it enough to stop fretting about the results.

Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound, that saved a wretch like me. I once was lost but now am found, was blind, but now I see.

When there are small pieces, I fuse them. I hand turn the bigger pieces in the block. I really, really enjoy hand work and hope you have a good experience with it too.

Personally I don't care for the way needle turn applique looks. I like fused and machine applique. You can do a straight stitch right along the edge with either matching, contrasting or invisible thread. You can do satin stitch, blanket stitch, or a small zigzag stitch with any of the thread choices. With fusing and machine stitching you're only limited by your imagination and thread choices!

I do a lot of hand applique and I use fusible webbing whenever possible. It is very easy to do. Trace your pattern onto the fusible web. Pin it onto the fabric and sew of the drawn line. Make a cut in the fusible web and turn so the fabric is on the front and web on the back. Sew down on your background fabric. On my blog I show how to do this.
