Baby and toddler quilts
I have seen some cute quilts I would like to make but they are square, not rectangular. The only way I know to make them rectangular would be to add more borders on top and bottom than on the sides.
Am I overthinking this? Are square quilts as useful as rec ones?
Do you like square quilts?

I think they are fine either shape - just as long as they are big enough to last beyond the 1-2 year age size - if you put in all that work, they should get to drag it around and play with it wherever takes their fancy (IMHO)

Very few moms would put their babies to bed in their cribs with a quilt these days....too much talk about the dangers of suffocation i think. I make my baby quilts about 45 x 60 too - a nice size for lying on the floor as a mat when they're babies....and a good size to cover up with when they are toddlers and older. Just my opinion.

My personal preference is NOT square... however... I do have a few as that's how it worked out Recently I participated in a medallion BOM here on the board http://www.quiltingboard.com/blocks-...g-t236801.html Make yourself a coffee and read through it for inspiration on adding borders to make it larger or to change from a square to a rectangle. I don't mind a square BABY quilt..... BUT I feel that a crib size rectangle quilt will get more use & love. HTH
