I was thinking of buying this for DGD. She will be five in Feb. and always wants to help me sew. I assume you can actually sew with them, hopefully slowly, and there is a finger guard. But batteries I don't know, she's not here that often. Any input would be appreciated, Thanks

I bought my DGD one several years ago, it was electric, we could never keep the bobbin in and the thread was always breaking, we adjusted and read and re-read the manual, but could never get it to run right. I wish I had invested in a regular machine for her.

Most toy machines are frustrating to operate.

Be sure not to get the chainstitch version. :)

I wouldn't; the toy ones never work and are frustrating. I'd get her a Hello Kitty sewing machine and show her how to use it properly.
