Walmart's batting seems to be cheaper than the quilt shop batting (for quilts). Is there a big difference in quality? I just want the really thin batting and will be using it for free motion quilting. Any suggestions?

Speaking for my self I use Walmart Batting and it's always worked fine for me, I really don't think there would be any difference, it would depend if one wants to pay more for a name on a package in my opinion..

Personally speaking, I prefer warm & natural. It is also easier for me to quilt than the poly.

I too prefer Warm & Natural or Warm & White. It's so soft after being washed.

I've seen Warm & Natural sold off the bolt at Walmart and it is less expensive. But, upon further inspection I noticed that it isn't as wide as the W & N that is sold at JoAnne's,Hancock, or local quilt shops.

Good point! You have to consider the width when comparing the price. The bolts I've been buying off of at Joann's are 90 wide. I think what is at Walmart is 45 wide. I can usually get the 90 wide for around $6/yd on sale. I did buy a queen size packaged Warm & Natural for about $9 the other day (Labor Day Sale + coupon). It ended up the equivilent of $3/yd. I should have bought more.

I just got warm and natural at Joannes for 50% off. Made it pretty cheap.
You just have to watch for sales and use coupons.

I use warm and natural to hand quilt all the time. I love the old fashioned look after washing, and It is easy to hand quilt.

I usually wait for the 50% off sales as well, or if I get a 50% off coupon.
