When I tie a quilt I use a decorative machine stich. Especially on baby quilts. I am leery of babies getting yarn or thread in their mouths and choking. The machine tie is very pretty and safe. Sometimes I change the stitch from block to block just to make it interesting. I have a Janome DC 3050 and it has some great utility and decorative stitches.
