    Default Lesson Learned-Not Enough Fabric

Have you ever run out of fabric for background, etc. when completing a quilt? The top corner of my flimsie is missing about 2 feet by several inches. It became a wall hanging in my workroom. Now I buy extra for backgrounds!

If I find a good background I always buy at least 6 yards when possible. Really hate coming up short. Sometimes mixing backgrounds up with several different prints helps to make it more interesting.

    Pretty quilt design!

That is my fear with projects. Can you get more background fabric?

Seams can take up an amazing amount of yardage, you probably had enough for full sized pieces.

You can try to match the missing yardage, even if it is years old some of us with large stashes may have it.

Or, I know you had a vision for this project but maybe you can use it as a design opportunity to piece that upper corner, maybe going beyond the missing amount and/or doing something similar in the opposite corner so you can use that amount of background fabric to tie stuff in. I didn't immediately get the image of a shell, just a modern shape and colors until I saw the name of the picture. Some abstract-y beach or water in the corners would work lovely. Don't give up quite yet! I say that understanding the devastation to the heart when things don't come out true to the mental vision. For the rest of us, it's still a lovely project.

It's one of the reasons I like rehoming quilts (even if intended for me) as opposed to keeping them. I always know the secrets/mistakes that the recipients have no idea!

That's an AMAZING quilt! I hope you can finish it. I'll bet this group could help you find the fabric you need.

I would just find something as close as possible and consider it an interesting feature of the quilt (but I do have kind of a casual attitude about quilts).

I buy background fabric I use the most by the bolt. It lasts a long time and more economical than buying by the yard when I need it. For a one time background I buy at least four yards.

What an amazing quilt!! I would just find something similar, as close as possible, and use that for the last piece. The old time quilters did this all the time. It just adds charm.
