Hi...please help me

I want to make labels for my quilts and need to buy some software that will do small fonts and to be able to arch the lettering. Have a top budget of about $500.
At the moment I use Embird but do not have the Font Engine package.

I have looked at Janome digitizing Jr v4, Brother PE Plus, Husqvarna 5D or just getting the Embird Font Engine
I am using Windows 7 so probably can't buy second hand as the software may not be compatible with my computer.
Doesn't matter what format the final design will be saved in as I can convert it with Embird if needs be.

So as you can see I need help because I haven't got a clue what I need or even if I am going down the right route

I have Husqvarna 4D and also windows 7. If you can get this 2nd hand it should be a lot cheaper. I use the software all the time. My friend has Embird but just the basic but I find it harder to use, of course I do not get to play with it much. I believe most program give you the option as to what format you save it in.

I use the Font Engine with Embird. You do have to fiddle a bit but you can achieve nice arching in the lettering.

Ok, here's a cheap stop-gap alternative.

The link will take you to a site that sells small alphabets. It's a quilting site, so they work well for labels.
The down side is that even tho she calls them fonts, they are really alphabets. You will have to select and place each letter individually. I have found that once you create your first basic label, you can reuse the design file, just replacing parts of it, like the date etc. I have the Viking design software and it will let me create small fonts but they don't stitch out as well as these do. If you are familiar with Embird, creating a label from this set of designs should be doable and an inexpensive alternative while you research a font creation alternative.

Since you already have Embird go ahead and get the font engine. Save the rest of the 500.00 for fabrics and thread! It took me a couple hours of intense fiddling one evening to get Embird figured out when I first bought it in '06 or '07 but, now with the wealth of tutorials on Youtube it is a breeze to learn.

I have bought frames from embroidery library, and used the frames already on my embroidery machine, and I have a couple of miniature alphabets that I purchased for the lettering, but I've also used the small alphabets on my embroidery machine and even sized them a little smaller, and I create my own labels, use steam-a-seam to put them on my quilt, sew around the edges on my machine to make them doubly secure, and then put my quilt together. All together it probably has cost me, for the frames and the miniature alphabets, $50. Here's a sample.

checkout Planet Embroidery.com Some of it is free, you just have to look through he fonts. You have to join but that is free also. I use that plus embird, that's all I need. For examp. You choose the font, then type in what you want. { quilt name My Blue Haven} them you can resize it in embird.

That's what I do, too. Also make my own frames using appropriate embroidery designs rearranged by Embird and use embird font engine or even the fonts in PE-Lite. Both will give me an arch. It's not hard, but sometimes time consuming.

I use Monogram Wizard Plus, which is basically a lettering software and it does the arched, stacked, etc. fonts. They are now selling individual alphas to download. Love this program and use it most of the time for any type letter embroidery. Think it runs less than $200. You can get Monogram Wizard Plus with Extended Feature which allows you to bring in designs to merge with the lettering. www.needleheads.com
