My daughter, who is expecting her 1st in September, and I were at Hancock's yesterday trying to pick out nursery colors. She spotted the white-on-white fabrics and really liked several to go with her color choices of royal blue/rose.
The thing we noticed about the fabric, was that some of it seemed like the patterned part of the white was printed on, and didn't appear as it would be as durable as some of the others that appeared to have the pattern woven into the fabric. Has anyone had issues with this? I'm going to be making sheets from the white-on-white, and also have concerns about a baby lying on that type of fabric. Am I too over-protective????

I have used sheets, bleached muslin, Kona cotton and white on white. I am not that finicky But I do try to keep like quality fabric together ... If using expensive fabric...I use good quality white....if a mish-mash of scraps, I use whatever I have

After flipping out over Quiltville quilts I realized that variety adds so much interest. I was an all one color/fabric girl for background, but have changed that up and glad I did. I mix in white/creams/neutrals. I'm not as wild as Bonnie but I like the variety of prints in my neutrals. In my mind it just makes it more interesting. On the other hand, I suggested a friend do a quilt for her grandgirl who is going away to college. College colors are red/white. She is so intimidated I am going to mix up the reds for her, but not the whites. We will use a Bella for the white.

I am one that just loves Moda Bella cottons. They have a much smoother feel to them than Kona. I get mine at Thousand of Bolts, as it is $4.99/yd. I have a Bella Solids Color Chart and I really love it, (Kona also has a color chart). It has swatches of all the solid colors, and is so helpful when trying to match it with some other fabric for a sashing or border.
I use a lot of white on white, and beige on beige fabrics. I like the look they give to projects, and have quite a few in my stash.
