Default Can you mic white and cream for the light colors?

I want to make my grandfather an Americana quilt. He's a WWII veteran. I have the dark colors figures out but don't have any other whites in my stash and didn't find anything at the lqs that seemed to go. Can I put some cream or beige fabrics with the white or should I keep shopping. It's not like I'm cutting these fabrics today. Just planning. But I really like the one white fabric with the red and blue so I wanted to use it. But it's really limiting my other choices.

Here's what I have so far. I'm making a fat quarter fizz. Lap quilt.

Here are the light colors again. Hope they show up better than the first shot. The pattern calls for 10 lights. Now I'm wondering if the red and blue on white fabric is a more medium fabric rather than light. Hmmmmm.

The fabric with red and blue reads as a light to me. Also using cream, light beige, etc. will look great for your lights.
Please post a picture when you get it done.

There are many neutrals that will go with medium to dark fabrics. Take a look at what Bonnie Hunter uses as neutrals in her quilts. http://www.quiltville.blogspot.ca She says " anything lighter than a brown paper bag " goes into her quilts.

Since your whites are small figured instead of being 'pure' white, I think you could add some cremes and beiges too. You could also look for tone on tone in white and creme to pull everything together. Please keep us posted on your progress.

I think they would look great. You could also use white or cream shirtings that have the small red and blue designs in them. They give a quilt texture. I love the fabrics you have selected!!

I don't see anything wrong with the fabrics you have selected. What pattern are you going to use?? I think he will be delighted with whatever you make him.

If your quilt is intended on having a scrappy look-go for it!! There are different degrees of cream too...many not the tan type of cream. Have fun...scrappy quilts are the best!

Yes you can. However I would scatter them so they would look planned rather than accidental. Let the pure whites, if that is your question contribute to the overall design and not confuse the look.
