    I agree with wash and starch to help the fraying problem. I find even with some of the mare expensive fabrics there is a fraying problem.

    If you cut and the fabric isn't completely straight on the grain, the fabric will fray more. That is supposedly why fabric stores used to tear fabric -- the fabric would tear on the straight grain. Look at your fabric before you cut and make sure the selvages line up.
