For my personal quilts I prefer traditional medium quilting...enough to keep batting from lumping and fabric from sagging...be it to enhance the piecing or E2E design.....but I marvel at the "show" quilts with the intense quilting....so much so that sometimes the piecing is secondary....be that the intention or not........"Modern" quilts, I think need much filler stitching as the piecing is so minimal..jmho

Imhave decided that I am not fan of heavy quilting. I make quilts to be used and I find they are not soft and cuddly with heavy quilting. I am now tying more quilts and starting to do hand quilting, particularly big stitch quilting.

I have never been a fan of heavy quilting. I've seen too many that totally obliterate the piecing. I want to be able to see the pattern of the quilt. More is not necessarily better in this case. I will admit I admire the talent and time it takes to quilt theses items but for the most part I don't feel it enhances the quilt. I want a quilt to be soft and cuddly not stiff as a board.

I like to see the different patterned fabrics in the quilts and on those pieces I don't like to see heavy quilting. On the plain parts however, the quilt designs really enhance the theme of the quilts.
I know I will never be one of those whose quilting motifs are drooled over, but that's okay. I have the utmost respect and am in awe of those who make it seem effortless, but I will probably always be a simple-thread quilter!
