I am going to order some charm packs to try to make a disappearing 9-patch quilt. I'd like it to be about the size of double. Can someone advise me how many packs I would need to get? While I'm asking, how many would you buy for a single or queen? (assuming roughly 24 pcs per pack)
Thanks in advance for your help. :)

I just made a King size and I used about 12 packs BUT they each had 40 pieces in them.

Don't know if this helps but each nine patch should give you a 13" square
finished. Can you work with this? Unless you you provide specific
measurements I'm not sure what size is a double. And like Susan said
most charm packs have 40 squares.

IF you find layer cakes on sale, they can sometimes be a more economical way to go -- you get 4 of the charm squares from each 10 inch square.

Thanks for the info so far....The charm packs I was looking at had 24 squares in each pack...
When you use them - how much of a seam? 1/4" or 1/2"???

thanks again for yr help.

Use a 1/4" seam. As for the number of packs, I had about 120 charms in a full/queen size quilt plus the border. So figure how many packs you need accordingly. Watch out though because the packs are different sizes.
