    Default Child safe buttons

I would like to embellish a child's quilt with large buttons. Is there any such thing as a child safe button? Or should I resort to applicating fabric "buttons" on? Thanks for your input!

Depends on the age of the child. For those 3 & under, I personally would never ever do real buttons. I've made larger "buttons" out of felt & ordered iron-on decals for one adorable baby quilt pattern I used that called for 42 1/4" buttons. The iron on decals came with the center holes punched out & everything. They were super realistic!
Over the age of 3 -- and assuming younger children or certain pets wouldn't also have access to the quilt -- it would depend on the age & maturity level of the child.

if you do decide to use real buttons, using dental floss to sew them on makes them very difficult to detach.

Well..... I don't know about "child safe", I just hope they're unbreakable. Happened to my SIL when my niece was about 15 months old, button broke and niece swallowed part of it.

I have seen large buttons out there 1" and bigger that would probably be "safe" but a lot depends on the child. My kids were good about not putting things in their mouths but some others I knew could not be trusted.

Mine would have gotten it in her mouth. some babies are strong so I wouldn't do it if its a baby/toddler quilt

Never use buttons. Why risk it. Babies put everything in their mouths. We had to cut the little 1/2 inch mfg tags off of all my son's stuffed animals because he sucked on them. Go figure.
