If you think you want to try cleaning her up yourself, here's links to Billy's (Lostn51) Vintage Machine Cleaning Tutorials.

Part 1 http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-45816-1.htm
Part 2 http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-45983-1.htm
Part 3 http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-46696-1.htm

You can also always PM him with any questions. Or post your questions to the Vintage Sewing Machine Shop. Folks there have gone thru the same thing with their machines & will be very helpful.

Here's some other Featherweight resources for you:

Parts / Supplies: http://sewingmachine221sale.bizland....ore/index.html

221 Parts: http://www.221parts.com/

Parts / supplies: http://shop.sew-classic.com/main.sc

This is more about garment sewing, but she handles FW parts and accessories. http://www.april1930s.com/

Dave McCallum: http://www.featherweight221.com/fwrx/index.html
Dave is located in Washington state. He has a comprehensive book and DVD with step by step care and maintenance instructions. I would recommend you getting one or both.

Thanks for all your support. I spent all afternoon cleaning her up (cosmetically, inside needs to be cleaned up yet, as well as her case...boy that thing smells REALLY attic fresh :) ) I can see now that she is actually in really good shape. I wish so SO much that I could plug her in and give her a whirl, but the cord has bare wires, and I haven't the correct cord to replace it. Turning the hand wheel, she's smooth as silk! I'll have to order that cord and a bunch of other stuff to "fill in the gaps", but I love her greatly. I have a 301 that I've been "borrowing" items from until I get the parts via mail order. I will definitely post photos soon. Can't wait to show her off! :-P

Check this man out. His prices seem really fair and he does the circuit at some of the quilt shows.

In my area it is going for $65.00 for a fw. I had my 1965 Singer 628K serviced at the same place and it was $163.00. Enjoy it they are great machines. I have 2 of them and I love them both. :)

I got a machine with a bad cord at an auction and got my cord on Ebay for about $15. I rewired the footpedal myself. But it is easy for a repairman when doing the overall checkup.

Ebay is also a good source for many parts as well as bobbin cases.

There is also a Yahoo group to join which has large membership and several experts.

I called to see how much a tune up is when i was looking on E-Bay. It was $80 which I thought was a lot. He only charges that for my electronic machine. Luckily he had a featherweight in the shop and I bought that one since he had already tuned it and cleaned it.
