Crazy quilt question....

Can you use paper or a stabilizer for the foundation of a crazy quilt block instead of the muslin all the patterns I keep finding say to use? I don't want to paper piece it. Do you know of an easy block to make ? Thanks, all.

Yes you can. One of the old fashioned ways was to use newspaper. cut to the size of your block and crazy piece over it and then when finished trim and remove the paper.
A stabilizer would be the same as muslin and would have to be left on the block. There was a post from someone who did a crazy/string border on adding machine paper and when finished trimmed and removed the paper.

I have used dryer sheets, coffee filters and thin fabric that I had no other use for. I have done them with nothing too; just started sewing pcs. they worked fine that way also.
the coffee filters circles look pretty coo. I will applique them to blocks to give a bit of dimension. really liked those.

if you don't want to paper piece is why ask if you can?
you can use what ever you want for a foundation- it does not have to be muslin- muslin is (traditionally) used because of its inexpensive-ness, availability and the fact crazy quilts were not (traditionally) quilted but tied.
you can use what ever you want- you can battle with the blocks with no foundation of any kind if that's what you want to do-
a stablizer of some sort really helps with the different fabrics/textures

I don't want to do what I call regular paper piecing where you cut a quarter inch off, etc. but I don't know...maybe it's the same thing? Thank you for all the info...I will try something new.
