Yes, I crochet. I have not made a full bedspread, but have made probably hundred or more afghans of varying sizes using yarn. I am currently making a Granny Square afghan for use on the deck while in my swing. Of all the afghans I have made, I have never made one for me. This one is it.
I know that Lion Brand has free patterns as well as most of the other name-brand yarns/threads.
There is a Crochet Guild of America board (I think that is the name) and several others. Herrschners has patterns available online.
My grandmother used to make spreads using the Aunt Lydia Crochet cotton, J&P Coats crochet thread, and DMC crochet thread. They all make them in several colors, ball sizes, and thread size. All are online for your enjoyment.

I had a book with quilt pattern afghans, never made any, gave it to oldest Daughter, she hasn't made any yet.

Are you wondering about crocheting, and then joining the crocheted work to fabric, to make the quilt?

I have two crocheted bedspreads that my Mother made: one is a
pinwheel pattern for a full sized bed & the other is a popcorn stitch for
a twin bed (mine when I was a girl, but not finished until years later).
I love them both, although the pinwheel one is now in need of repair.
    It was well used.
