I have an old Singer peddle machine that my grandmother left me. I had set it in a spare bedroom years ago and not opened the cabinet to see what it looked like. So I decided to open it and see if I could clean it up and use it to make an quilt on, but the belt is broke and it has a funny looking bobbin it is not round it looks like a bullet. Do any of you know where I might get a belt for it? I will put a picture up when I get it all cleaned up. The cabinet is in great shape I know it is over 50 or 60 years old just not sure.

I am fortunate enough to live in an area that has a Mennonite and an Amish community. I purchased an old treadle machine at an antique mall. It had a leather belt that was broken. My local Bernina dealer is a Mennonite. He was able to provide me with a new belt.
If you have that type of community within driving distance from you I would check with them. There is probably some place on line you could also purchase one.

I have a White treadle which takes the same belt. I got mine in an Amish store near me. They are leather and can be cut to the right length. There is a staple that comes with it to put through the leather. Mine was in a Singer package, so you might check out a Joanns in the notions dept. You can date the machine and find out about the bobbin by going to www.singersewingmachine.com. Get the serial # from the front of the machine and you're good to go.

You can get the belt fairly cheap on ebay. There's also a lot of tutorials online about how to thread the shuttle bobbins. Just google it.

The bobbin you describe is called a shuttle. I have 2 old treadles but they use round bobbins. Check out Billy's thread on vintage machine shop. You will find tons of wonderful information there. Here is a link to it: http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-43881-1.htm

Sometimes your local sewing machine dealers will have them. The one I worked for years ago made sure he had a couple around all the time. If not, I'd google for treadle machine belts.
