I have been thinking aobut getting a used embroidery machine for quite some time. I am only wanting a small one to begin with to see if I like it. That is the same reason I want a used one.
My machine repair guy called me today with a really clean, very well running Bernette Deco 650 for $200. He said it would be great for me since I know NOTHING about them. It comes with the books, hoops, everything I need other than thread and stabilizer.
Is this worth it and is it a good machine?

Nice price, I think, but does it do designs up to 5x7 size. If it only does 4x4, you will quickly outgrow it. Also, how do you add designs. Can you download from computer? Can you use a USB?

I think it only does 4x4, I forgot to ask. My hubby and I have decided if I get it and like it, we will upgrade it to another machine in the next year. I am pretty much sold on buying one, just not there 100% yet.

Find out how you download designs, that is pretty important.

Yes, downloading the designs is very important. You may have to purchase a read/write box with memory card and those can run over $100. If you can afford it, try to find one with a USB cord to connect from your computer to the machine. I have a Brother which does 4x4 which was my first. Within 6 months, I was ready for a larger 5x7. Even now a 5x7 is getting smaller with all the new designs coming out in 7x12 and 8x8.

On the other hand, if your dealer would be willing to trade it in on an upgrade in about a year, that might not be a bad deal (depending on how designs are uploaded).

There....I probably thoroughly confused you!!
