I have a bunch of old sweat pants that are getting holes in them and a bunch of old flannel shirts that I don't wear anymore, could I use these for a rag quilt? I thought about putting flannel on one side and the sweat pant material on the other. I also thought about alternating the blocks as well so that both sides would look the same but only have the rag seam on one side. All the sweat pants are different colors of grey but the shirts are all colors of plaid. What do you think?

OHHH, the sweatpants would not 'rag' (just roll), sweatpants have some polyester in them. I don't know if it would work. But hey, maybe the flannel would stabilize the sweatpants. You never know until you try. good luck

Yup, I agree, the sweats wouldn't fray, sorta like t-shirts

I say go for it. Maybe more clips would make it "raggedy" looking. Try a couple of "squares" and see. Let us know how it turns out.

Sweatpants are a type of fleece, so I say go for it! I have made many rag quilts with fleece on the bottom and a layer of flannel on top. They turn out just fine. :)
And they are so soft and snuggly.

Give it try. Your results will be a cozy warm quilt.

Try it, and see how it works.You could make a small one for practice to see. :)

It should be something like using a blanket for the batting and backing. It should work well for what they call a utility quilt that is meant to be used to keep you warm. Love plaids in quilts. Some people don't like plaids but I do. Go for it.

I agree that the sweats won't fray, what about old denim jeans?

nothing wrong with the flannel and sweat pants being used...but since the sweats dont fray...sew the seams inward like most other quilts...sure will be warm
