I wouldn't use hot water, but I would add Oxiclean if a boost is needed for cleaning. Warm or cool water only, for me.

I try to avoid really hot water. I think warm is good enough. My quilts do not get overly dirty, so I go gently.

I use cold water on the permanent press cycle, I also tell that to anyone I give a quilt to.

I think the HE washers are better for quilts as they don't have an agitator to get caught around - or just using a gentle cycle with washers with agitators should work.

Never, I don't wash my quilts unless they are soiled. take a dryer sheet and put quilt into your dryer for about 10 minutes , it will sanitize and freshen them.

I launder my quilts the way I expect the recipient will launder them. I do not use hot water I use either cool or warm. I also include care instructions on every label.

I only use cool water to wash mine and I rarely prewash.

Barb in Louisiana: have you tried the Lavender scented Odo-ban?

I prewash all fabrics in hot water/cold rinse using the gentle cycle, then machine dry on low.

I label my quilts: Machine Wash Warm/Cold Rinse, Machine Dry on Low.

If they are accidentally washed in hot water, the fabric has already been in hot water and it shouldn't affect the quilt at all.
