I find that the start button works best for me on my Viking diamond. I adjust the speed to where I want it and then concentrate on moving my quilt. I tried the foot and just could not get it all together!

I like my Juki TL98Qe machine for FMQ. It has the needle up and allows me to bring the bobbin thread to the top. This makes the backing neater. The foot pedal isn't as touchy as my other machine. I make my hands go the speed for the machine. It takes practice. Just remember there is more than one way to get the same results.
