Can I use embroidery thread to do satin stitching with my DSM?
The reason I ask is that I'm doing a collage wall hanging and am going to satin stitch all the seams between pieces of fabric, after I sandwich the quilt and the embroidery threads are so pretty....
I've done a practice piece using regular thread and it works fine, but before I purchase embroidery thread to try, I thought I'd ask here whether it would work or not.
Thanks, Watson

Yes, I've used polyester embroidery thread (Isacord, Maderia) for satin stitching with good results. I've even used it on the LA with little problems. If it's made for embroidery machines which stitch really fast, you should be able to use it on your DSM. That said, I never liked the rayon threads either on my embroidery machine or my DSM - it breaks too easily. You may have to play with the tension on your machine to get it to look nice, though.

Rayon thread is also embroidery thread; emb thread isn't just polyester

I also have used polyester embroidery thread on many projects. I do not recommend rayon embroidery thread for use in construction (seams or quilting), but it would work fine as a surface embellishment if you don't want to wash in hot water or bleach. I have gotten rid of all my rayon thread; it is just too weak.

I use embroidery thread for machine embroidery and machine quilting. I like polyester more. Rayon has a nice sheen but it doesn't "behave" as nice as polyester...If you want your satin stitches to have a sheen try Robsin-Anton.
