I just watched the most amazing show on TV. It was an episode of Georgia Bonesteel's Lap Quilting show. She had a woman on doing fabric dying and I am totally enamoured of it.. Now I'm going on-line to find the proper type of dye to try this... just what I need another craft! she showed several techniques and it looks like you could play and get about any effect you want!

You might enjoy looking around Dharma Trading. They supply everything for doing dyeing, including dyes, chemicals, markers, paints and prepared for dyeing (PFD) fabrics, tools, etc:

Dharma is a great resource for dyeing info and supplies. One word of caution - any utensils, measuring cups, or containers you use for dying CANNOT safely be used for food again.
