so I just made my first pillow and it looks ok but the back should have been bigger so the pillow would have fit inside easier I am wondering what the trick is to get the correct measurement for the back how much bigger should it be then the front piece?

I always make front and back the same. When you buy the pillow, it should say how big it is. I allow for seams when cutting fabric. Should work. Hope this helps.

Did you sew the back in one piece? Or did you leave an opening slit for the pillow form? :D:D:D

Take a look at this youtube video. I really like how she explains things.

If you can slip one of the envelope sides under the machine (take pillow form out) put a buttonhole on it. Hand sew a nice button where you want the envelope to overlap and put the form back in and button it up. It will keep the envelope closed and help push some of the puffyness to the front. I was taught that you make your pillow cover slightly smaller than your pillow form so that it fills out the corners nicely.
