Are the new Singer Feather weights better than the older ones or is it just the antique-ness of the old ones that makes them so wanted?? I thought there were only old ones but see the still make them. What are your thoughts on this?

The new ones are low-end, lightweight, plastic Singers given the "Featherweight" name to cash-in on the well-deserved popularity of the vintage, all metal FW models 221 & 222. There us also a $500 Alphasew reproduction of the original Singer 221. Only authentic FWs for me, the others hold no appeal. There are better lightweight, plastic machines, if that's what you are after.

There is absolutely no comparrison between the two. I wouldn't waste my time and money on the new ones. The old ones for me all the way.

I haven't heard anything good about the new featherweights. The old fws are super durable and last forever (obviously). :-)

Ditto. I paid $180 b y the time I had mine serviced for a rough looking but sweet sewing original scroll face FW. And I'd do it again...

Get one of the old ones, they're easy to maintain and are beautiful smooth running machines. Easily portable if you go anywhere.

They are an investment, and if you ever need to, you can sell it and get your money back if not more.

A new plastic one isn't going to be worth a quarter of what you paid for it after you've used it for a while.

I would NOT buy a NEW Singer, period. This is my own personal opinion of course.
