Lovely piecing!

I would quilt in the same color as the background so the piecing stays the focus. The downside of that is that whatever quilting you do isn't going to show up very much. But what can I say? I just love feathers, so I'd do red feathers in the red portions & grey "fancy scallops" (Cindy Needham does these -- they're a basic scallop with a line down the center & 2 arcs going from the center to either side) in the grey/black/white sections.
I went back & forth on the center heart. You could do trapunto to raise it up, or maybe fill with either cross hatching or pebbles. I just wasn't sure on that.

Bree123..I do fmq and have some experience with feathers, and that would be my first choice, but I don't know if I am brave enough to go for your suggestion, but it sure looks like a plan. The back is to be a soft gray and white pattern. I enjoyed every part of doing this quilt...so far.

Great job, so beautiful. I agree with Tartan, I would go down the middle of the squares along the pattern of the heart shape. But it is your quilt and if you are wanting a professional just go for it. Whatever you do, it will be beautiful!
