Okay, a year ago I bought some material for curtains and them some with the idea of making a quilt to match because I loved the pattern so much. I've never made a quilt though, so my mom offered to help as she has had some experience. Now that we're actually getting around to it, I've come up with a design; a complicated one. So we're kind of at a loss as to how we are going to make it. I'm really set on the design though.

So I was hoping that if I post what I've come up with, someone would be willing to give feedback or advice.

The borders are what’s really tricky. We're also trying to decide if it's feasible to use the small triangles cut from the corners. The blocks are 9 by 9 inches, so the triangles when I've drawn it out are between 4.5 x 4.5 x 3.25 or 1.5 x 1.5 x 1 depending on how much I take off. I don't want to do too big, but small seems like it'd be too small to work with.

If there is anything else I can add or explain just let me know :-)

I don't think it would be extremely hard, sort of like making a snowball block.

Are these pieces already cut from fabric?

I actually put these together in PhotoShop using pictures of the fabric. So nothing's cut yet. This is the "grid' I made to build it. After it was all set up I filled in the middle blocks and background with black.

I am very glad to hear that. (Brow wipe)

You are showing a modified snowball block which is a beginner's pattern. Those fabrics will look fabulous.

Here is a link to show the process. Instead of adding the corner triangles on all four sides, you just add them to two sides.

    Hope this helps.

I think Ellie is right, just make snowball blocks with only two or three cut corners instead of the four. And yes, I think you could use the cut off corners to make small flying geese for the border. That is really cute fabric. Good Luck.

p.s. don't forget to modify the pattern sizes to fit the smaller block measurement you want.
