I use binding. I'm afraid birthing would allow the fleece to stretch too much.

I love using fleece as a backing. I recently finished my DGD' s quilt and since she needs extra warmth I used W&N batting and a fleece backing. The Drape is nice. The quilt is too heavy for me as I like it cooler but great for her. Most of the quilts I do are the cotton front and then the fleece backing. I have also used fleece as batting between two layers of cotton. I have not had any trouble with fleece slipping (as some people have said). I do purchase a nice weight fleece. I once found some thin fleece on sale and when I used that I doubled it and it worked fine. BrendaK
