Hi, I'm new to the board and have made a few quilts with basic quilting, but I'd love to try the stippling. I'm wondering what type of foot to get though, because my sewing machine is a White Brand sewing machine and since they are no longer sold, I'm not sure what darning foot to get? Are they generic, can I get another brand one and will it work? I'm sorry, I've only used the regular foot and the zipper foots on my machines.

is there a place close that sells and does repairs I would call them or take your machine in and they would know what is the right foot for your machine. I have tried to get different feet for my machine and ended up wrong ordered off the internet.

Welcome to the board!
I think they were bought over by Singer. The foot will depend on whether your machine has a low or high shank (the bit where you attach your feet). I think most modern machines have a low shank, but am not sure. Any reputable sewing machine dealer will be able to tell you. Good luck

There is a generic brand sold at Joann's. It is made in Japan. I bought a walking foot for my singer because it was way cheaper that the Singer brand. I am quite confident that you can return it if it does not work. Just open the package carefully so that you can glue it back again, or tape it. You will also need to cover your feed dogs, and if you do not have the cover, I hear that duct tape works great. Also remember to put your stitch regulator to 0 or whatever the lowest value is. Whites typically are a short-shank machine (the most common). You can measure the feet you have to make sure. Here's a link to help you with that:

By stippling, I assume you mean that you want to free-motion quilt (FMQ). For most machines, you would use a darning foot. Most of these are what is called a "jumping" foot because they contain a spring that raises the foot with the needle (so you can move the quilt in-between stitches) and then come down to hold the fabric in place for the actual stitch. Some machines have a "floating" foot instead of a "jumping" foot, but probably not the White. (A floating foot has no spring and simply floats lightly on the fabric to allow you to move the fabric, but still provides enough pressure for the stitch to form.)

You can use any generic short-shank foot on your machine. Any sewing machine dealership is likely to carry a generic short-shank darning foot, and you may also find them at places like JoAnn's. Or, you can buy this type of foot online. (All-metal feet are usually better than plastic feet.) Here is a link to one on Amazon:
