    Default Glide Thread

I would like to try Glide Thread. Where do you purchase it? I would like a recommendation of a website. I googled it without a lot of luck. I currently use Superior's So Fine, does anyone have experience with both? Any ideas of what is the better? I love the So Fine but hear the Glide is great at half the price.

This was the only place I could find it. I purchased a spool but have not tried it yet. The price is great, so I am hoping I love it. If you call and ask, they will bypass the $35(?) minimum order so you can try it out.

I can fmq with Glide and not have one thread issue. I use the matching pre wound Glide magna bobbins and a Bobbin Geni. I bought a spool of Glide and bobbins on special, color Cleopatra. It is the best color for every quilt I have quilted since. It seems to be a different look on each color fabric. I use a size 90/14 topstitch needle. I was using a smaller size needle but the larger size seems best when quilting at high speed. I have the Brother 1500 straight stitch machine.

There is only the one place to purchase Glide that I know of: http://www.bobbincentral.com/

Glide is a 40wt 3-ply trilobal polyester thread. So Fine is a 50wt 3-ply polyester (not trilobal) thread. I have not tried So Fine. Tried King Tut cotton, Signature cotton, and Connecting Threads Esssential Pro polyester (70wt) in my longarm before trying Glide. All I use is Glide now because it is the only thread of the 4 I tried that never shreds or breaks on me while I am free motion quilting on the frame.

You may also want to try Sigma thread from http://www.metroemb.com/store/ . It is on sale right now ($2.75 for a 5,000m spool), making it about 40% of the price of Glide. Quilters say it is very similar to Glide in both strengths and looks, although Sigma may be a little shinier. (Glide has a nice shine to it that I like for my quilts; adds a little sparkle.) Sigma is made in China whereas Glide is made in the U.S.

The Sigma thread at the metroemb site is a good buy but for one .89 spool the shipping is $6. I put more spools in the cart and shipping went up to $14. That is way too much to pay for shipping for small spools of thread.

I just checked out the metroemb site. about an hour ago. and decided to give them a try.I need some good thread for machine quilting , as the stuff I got from Connecting Threads is shredding and breaking towards the end of the spools. I just got a message that my order has shipped!
