I have never used glue when attaching anything to my quilts, so my question is, can I glue down the binding and then want to machine stitch it, can I sew through the glue or do I only glue where I wouldn't touch it with the machine needle?

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

I think it depends a little bit on your machine. I have a workhorse that can sew through 12 layers of fabric, and I do not hesitate to sew through glue. I only use washable school glue, by the way.

Sharon Schamber glues her binding on before stitching, you might check her website or YouTube for her videos. I'm positive I've seen a video of how she does it.

I glue my bindings & sew through the glue with no problems.

I use glue all of the time, and I don't even know it is there when I sew on it :D:D:D

I would sew through glue, but someone on a different topic said they used Rubber Cement. I don't think I would probably sew through that.

If your using elmers washable school glue it shouldn't be a problem no matter what machine you have. If you are using elmers rubber cement then yeah it might be a problem! lol

I am still a bit confused why glue is favored over using a thin strip of fusible... ?! I have been using a thin strip of fusible for years to hold my binding exactly where I want it to be until I sew it. Its fast ... not messy... inexpensive .. no drying time!
