I got a Brother XL 5340 from a lady at work. She bought it in Nov 2002 and never sewed a stitch on it! She was going to learn to sew, but just never got around to it.

She charged me $75 for it and a case, and even though its a few years old, it's brand new, so I don't think I got hurt any.

Yes, this machine already has a name,,,,,,now don't laugh at me about this, but if I'm going to spend countless late night hours with someone, I sure would rather it be a man.....so machine's name is Falan. It's an Indian name that means "productive" and I hope it proves to be. lol

    Have a great week everyone!

Well it looks like Falan needs to live up to it's name. I'm sure you can make it quite productive and whip out some quilts.

I don't think you got a bad deal at all. What type of stitches does it do. Mine only does the basic with zig zag.

Enjoy, as how do you know that the machine is not "male"?
:) :) :) Although not the perfect date.

Great buy!!! I bought a CE4000 a few weeks ago from a college student that "bought it for a class project. My quilt is done and I don't need it anymore." When I asked what size quilt she made on it she held her hands up and showed me---maybe an 18" square. LOL She even still had the little plastic bags and all the styrofoam packing in the box.

Ok Jan m, here's what he does.....
1 step button hole, straight and zigzag, blindhem, shell tuck, elastic stitch, stretch blindhem, scallop, universal, bridging stitch, rampart, triple stretch stitch, triple zigzag stretch stitch, stretch overlock, elastic overlock, feather, arrow head, decorative, leaf, tree and legs stich.
He came with a button hole foot, zipper foot, button sewing foot, 1/4" quilting foot, darning plate, twin needle, 6 bobbins, screwdriver, and some wire thing that looks like a allen wrench with an extra bend (no idea what that's for yet).
Oh, and I think he will be the 'perfect date'. He won't make a move til I push his buttons, will follow directions, and he'll make me proud to call him my own. He won't show up late; has a free-arm but not 6 hands; won't burp, fart or make raunchy comments after a few drinks; I could go on and on.....lol
Rapture, sounds like you got a good deal too! Isn't it wonderful to find a good deal?
