I have seen the GFG with a diamond in the edging to join the big flowers, but I am at a loss as to how to make the diamonds.

My hexes are 5inch, so what size do I make the diamonds?

Shouldn't the each side of the diamond be the same measurement as one segment of the hexagon?

Yes they should be the same size as the side of a hexi. If you are piecing with templates like EPP, you can lay out your hexi templates in the pattern that you want, leaving exactly enough space for the diamond path. That will be the size of your diamond template.

Clear as mud? I can take a few pics and post if you like.

i'm trying to picture what y'all are talking about. i found this pic thru google. are you talking about the green triangle sections? this quilt has a jagged looking edge. are you referring to a triangle to fill that in?

Good question. For clarification, I assumed we were talking about a diamond path like the one in my GFG avatar.

Frae, I was talking about your type of path, but I like what QuiltnNan did also.

I want a queen quilt. When I place 3 flowers on my bed with the white paths between, it doesn't quite cover the top of the bed. Even with an extra set of white hexagons for the border I need a little more room. With the diamonds added, that means my center flower will also be surrounded by white hexies and I believe that will make the space.

I am open to other suggestions also. I thought the contrasting colored 6-hexie "diamond" was attractive and it would necessitate adding that white border so I may just do that!
