    Default Grandmother's Flower Garden

I'm wondering what size hexagon others have used to make Grandmother's Flower Garden. I plan on doing it by hand so bought 1" EPP template but am now wondering if I should have bought 2". I know it can personal preference but if I can avoid any problems I'd certainly welcome suggestions and comments.

It all depends on how long you want to work on an EPP project. If my templates were one inch, a baby quilt is about all I could manage but they are a great take-a-long project. Bonnie Hunter at www.quiltville.blogspot.ca has a EPP quilt going that I think her templates look about 2 ? Type in Hexie Project in the search box and some topics should come up. She does it while she travels and it has been a couple of years I think.

1 1/2" templates are sold at PaperPieces.com. They may give you a happy medium!

Personally, I'd invest in a Fiskars hexie punch. They come in a couple of sizes and I think it would be cheaper in the long run. I've seen them on Amazon.

Like another posted said, personal preference. I personally like the 1 inch templates for EPP. I just like the looks of the smaller size. The larger looks cumbersome to me. I've done three queen using one inch. And it really is a wonderful take along project.

This is my GFG. I used 1" hexagon. Once you make a flower, I think you will be delighted that you made the quilt with 1" hexagons. for those who don't know, 1" refers to the measurement of one side of the hexagon.

I love the look of the smaller Hexi. I am currently making a table topper with 5/8 Hexi.

I'm working on a 3/4" I use Fiskers punches and junk mail. I have the 3/4" and the 1" size. My punch pooped out so fiskers sent me a new punch. great company to work with too.
If and when, and that's a big IF, i'd do it in 1", these 3/4" are crazy to work with. I'm saving the 1/2" for when they lock me in the institution for crazy quilt ladies.
have fun. see ya there ^.

The one I did was 1 inch. I personally liked the size. If you go too big, you have to do more basting to the papers. At 1 inch, I could just baste corner to corner without basting at all through or to the papers. (I am doing a modified elongated Lucy Boston now and the longer sides are harder to NOT baste to the papers).
