How 'bout a new purse? There have been so many beautiful ones in the pictures section.

I am crocheting pot scrubbers! They are made out of tulle!

easy to do and as a mom I don't know a mom who doesn't use a scrubbie from time to time!

When Mom turned 70 she got her ears pierced. WooHoo! Now I could buy her stuff she didn't already have. Last year on her 80th birthday, she thanked me for the earrings and casually mentioned she didn't need any more. :-(

Both my parents go and get a pedicure at the Senior Center every month. I think I will buy her a years worth of foot care from the Senior Center.

One year I made her a card and bought her a gift card for a pedicure at the salon.

The card was basically a black piece of folded paper and I had cut out a rose on the front of the card and put some shiny red paper behind the cut out. Maybe you could do the same thing with some stabilized or starched fabric and put on an appliqued design on the front. Then you could use fabric markers to write something on the inside (unless you went with my route and made a black card).

Mug rugs?

Pin cushion in a tea cup?
... there was a good thread on this the other day. I think you could have fun doing it in old creams and sugars too! The saucer under the cup or cream/sugar does double duty to hold loose threads, stitch ripper, scissors, etc.
