Hello everyone! This is a bit of a long shot but a while ago someone said they had quilted with a different stitch. I have been racking my brains to remember what it was. The title of the thread was the name of the stitch, I think it may have begun with an 'H'. Sorry it's not much to go on, but I hope someone can help.

You can quilt with most any of the fancy stitches ... just try the ones you have and see what you like.

For hand quilting I know of the running stitch or rocking stitch, big stitch and stab stitch. Some people do Shasiko (sp) for a quilting stitch too.

I once took apart an antique quilt that had been hand quilted and every other stitch was a back stitch. OY!!!

My grandmother said that back stitch was to secure the quilting so won't unravel if one thread broke. However, she also said she stopped doing that with modern threads as they were stronger. Made sense to me.

So sorry ... for some reason, my mind went to machine quilting!

That being said .... consider all the fancy embroidery stitches that were used on Victorian Crazy Quilts. Some were purely decorative ... and some were for qulting purposes too.

I wonder if it was the large stitching with like crochet thread..or some sort of heavy thread? It is almost as difficult as tiny stitches because it needs to be uniform. But can't think what it is called!
