I am blessed to be getting a sewing room with a hardwood floor. Have seen ads for a special hard wood caster wheel for office chairs. Has anyone tired thes? Do they keep you from scratching your floor?

I used to have hardwood floors and I never heard of the casters. I did buy one of those plastic floor protectors to use at my computer. There is one for carpet and one for hardwood floors. The nubby things on the back of it are different.

well there are wheels for hard floors and wheels for carpet. i know that much.

I would be skeptical. Any tiny piece of grit that gets between a caster and a floor will cause scratches. We have sliders on the bottoms of our kitchen stools, but the hardwood floor in that area has gotten scratched anyway over a period of 5 years. The scratches are many fewer and much lighter than if we didn't have the sliders, of course.

Also, I think a lot depends on which hardwood the floors are made of and what finish was used on them. We have a relatively soft hardwood floor with a very light-duty finish (not my choice!). If you have a harder wood then it won't scratch or dent as easily, and if you have a couple of coats of polyurethane on the hardwood then it's just the polyurethane that gets scratched and that's pretty easily fixable. I think the safest way to go is with a large rug (with cushioning underneath to protect the floor from the rug).

I have laminate floors in my home and with my rolling chair in my office/sewing room, I use the chair mat sold in the office supply stores. Mine does not have nubbies on it, one side is textured and the other side is smooth. Stays in place well. Did not cost that much either. I agree about the coasters and tiny bits of trash will scratch your floor. I have the felt pads on my heavy furniture and permanent sliders on large things I need to move frequently and the slider pads on my dining room chairs although my kitchen/dining has ceramic tile.

I have laminate and just use the cheap sticky felt pads on the bottom of my chair. Works just fine for me.

Are you using a rolling chair or regular chair? If it is a rolling chair, get an office hard plastic shield that goes on the floor. I got mine at Staples. If it is a regular chair, you can cut a slit in tennis balls and shove those on the bottom of the chair legs. This is what they do here for the children's school chairs so they don't scratch the floors.
