This weekend I decided to try some Hobbs 20/80 premium batting and was pleasantly surprised. I have always used Warm and Natural or Warm and White for my batting but have heard the Hobbs batting was nice. The Warm and Natural has always been difficult for me to move around under my machine because it is so heavy that I woud often have back and shoulder pain for days after using. {Have too much of that for othe reasons} Anyway, I put my quilt on my machine to do some SID and FMQ and right away was feeling the difference in the weight. It moved so nicely I couldn't believe it! No extra shoulder pain today! I thought maybe there are others who have had my problem and would like to know about this. If you like the heaviness of Warm and Natural you won't care for Hobbs 80/20 but i you like less weight and a nice soft feel you might want to try the Hobbs. I will be posting some pics of two quilts I recently finished using Hobbs 80/20 that I really like the feel of.

I always use Hobbs 80/20. It gives a nice old fashioned look to my quilts, quilts nicely, has a nice feel after the quilt is done.

I always wanted 100% cotton, but this batting gives a similar look and can be quilted further apart than cotton. A good thing when you dont want to completely cover with quilting.

That sounds like something to try! I made a queen size quilt for our bed. My husband says it's too heavy, so he has to have it off every night. I wish I had known there was a good alternative to Warm and Natural. And, the ease of quilting it sounds very appealing. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for sharing this information. I'll have to try this as my shoulders and back hurt after wrestling the quilt with the Warm & White batting.

I use Hobbs 80/20 a lot. It's 20% polyester and very warm and washable, and I feel that it drapes better than W&N. I think W&N is great for wall hangings that you're entering in shows. It really is stiff and keeps that shape. I quilt on my longarm, so my preference for Hobbs 80/20 is for the drape and the laundering.

Trying it for the first time because I needed the 108" in black for a king-sized. Backing is very heavy though, so that defeated the weight savings! Do like the way its stitching up though.

Well, You all talked me into it. I just called my LQS and ordered 3 yds. of it. They honor Joann's coupons on Mondays so now is the time to try it. It is 96" long and 7.96 a yd. so it won't be too bad.

I bought the Hobbs by the package at Hobby Lobby. It was regular $19.95 for a queen size and I used one of their 40% off coupons and ended up paying $11.95 for the package. I plan on getting another package this week and use the new 40% off. I would guess that the price will be going up due to the cotton prices...hoping they still have some left. I hope you like using it as much as I did. Mary
